Themes

The International Congress The Caribbean in its Literatures and Cultures. In the Centenary of José Lezama Lima’s Birth is intended as a place for debate on literatures, cultures and artistic manifestations from the Caribbean in all its complexities. Various themes are proposed, but also new suggestions will be welcome. Papers can be either in Spanish, Portuguese, French or English.

 

  • Thinking the Caribbean. Intellectual designs and literary writings. Theory and criticism from and about the Caribbean.

  • New maps in the Caribbean. Movements, transits, diasporas. The Insular Caribbean and the Continental Caribbean. The Caribbean in and out of Latin America. Transatlantic Studies: The Caribbean and its relations with Europe and Africa. The Caribbean and its languages.

  • The Caribbean on the Internet. Virtual territories, new technologies of the lettered city. Globalization and Market.

  • Caribbean literature and writings: traditions, legacies, revisions, debates and new poetics.

  • The Caribbean in its art (music, plastic, cinema)

  • Culture and Communication in the Caribbean. Journalism/Literature/Market. Popular culture and mass culture at the crossroad of the present time.

  • The Caribbean and its literary and cultural magazines.

  • The Caribbean in dialogue with Latin America and Argentine.

  • Lezama Lima and Orígenes: present and legacy; debates and rewritings.

  • The presence of Lezama Lima and Orígenes in Argentine and Latin America literature.
